Why now

AI is driving a building boom. The workforce is not keeping up.

The race to build AI computing power has become a race to build the facilities that house it. Those buildings need skilled technicians to construct, power, and maintain them, and there are not enough trained people to go around. That gap is the opportunity.

The boom

Data centers are going up across the country, driven by the demand for AI computing. Every facility needs electrical work, mechanical cooling, network cabling, and round-the-clock maintenance. These are multi-year buildouts, and each new site creates the same demand for trained hands.

The shortage

There are too few trained technicians to build, power, and maintain these facilities. Employers are competing for a thin pool of people with electrical, mechanical, and network skills, and the training pipeline has not caught up with the construction schedule.

The window

People who train now are entering the field while facilities are still being built and crews are still being formed. Getting qualified during a buildout is a different starting position than arriving once the roster is full. Windows like this close as supply catches up.

Why us

Coached by someone who has managed techs doing this work.

Thornton Talent Group is led by Jeff Thornton, who spent more than 35 years in technology running big voice-and-data projects and managing the technicians who did the work. He knows what a manager wants from a tech, because he was the one managing them.

Projects for

  • Hewlett Packard
  • Coca-Cola
  • Delta Airlines
  • Holiday Inn
  • Bell South Dataserv
  • He has managed many techs. Network and voice technicians, the same family of roles you are aiming at. He knows the certifications and experience that managers value on their crews.

  • He has negotiated salaries from both sides. As an employee and as a contractor. You learn what the number is actually based on.

  • He knows the behaviors that keep the job. Getting hired is half of it. Showing up right, communicating right, and being the tech a manager trusts is the other half.

  • Direct and honest, no hype. If a path is a bad fit, you hear it on the call, not after you have paid for a program. Fit matters. The wrong path costs years.

Who this is for

Built for career starters and the parents backing them.

You might be 19 and done with classrooms that lead nowhere. You might be a parent watching your kid drift between low-wage jobs. Either way, the problem is the same: nobody has shown you the route.

  • No experience needed. Most people we coach are starting from zero. The route accounts for that.
  • Your area, researched. Training options, costs, and employers near you, checked before your call.
  • Months alone, or days with a guide. You can piece this together yourself. It just takes far longer and costs more in wrong turns.

About

The guy behind Thornton Talent Group.

Jeff Thornton spent 35-plus years inside the technology world. Now he uses that seat to put people like you on the right side of the hiring table.

Jeff Thornton has spent more than 35 years in technology, working on big voice-and-data projects for companies like Hewlett Packard, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, Holiday Inn, and Bell South Dataserv.

That career put him in rooms most career advice never reaches. He managed many network and voice technicians, which means he saw up close what separates a reliable, trusted tech from the rest of the crew. He knows which certifications carry weight and which ones pad a resume. He knows the experience that matters and the experience that only looks like it does.

He has also negotiated salaries from both sides of the table: as an employee asking, and as a contractor pricing his own value. When he coaches you on an offer, he is not guessing how either side thinks. He has sat in both seats.

Just as important, he knows the behaviors that get and keep the job. Plenty of qualified people lose roles they already won because nobody told them how a critical facilities floor actually runs: the communication habits, the reliability signals, the way a good tech documents work and earns trust. That knowledge is baked into every route he builds.

Thornton Talent Group exists because the path into these careers is badly lit. The information is scattered across forums, sales pitches, and well-meaning videos that never account for your town, your budget, or your starting point. Jeff's work is simpler: find your path, write it down, and tell you the truth about what it takes. Direct, honest, no hype.

How we operate

Three rules that never change

Fit before money

If a trade is wrong for you, we say so on the call, before it costs you tuition and years. The wrong path is the most expensive option there is.

Written, not vibes

You leave with a document: training route, certifications in order, total cost, timeline. Advice you cannot re-read is advice you cannot follow.

Honest about the work

These careers reward people who show up and do hard things well. We will never sell you a shortcut that does not exist. We will hand you the fastest honest route.

Bring your questions. Leave with a route.

Answer the intake

Fourteen short questions about your background, your town, your budget, and your timeline. It takes about ten minutes and it is what makes your call specific instead of generic.

The intake link arrives with your booking confirmation.

Why the 72-hour notice?

Your call is not a script read. Before we talk, we research training programs, real prices, and employers in your area, then build the first draft of your route. That takes real hours. The 72-hour window is how we make sure you get a call built around your life, not a template with your name pasted in. Pick a time at least three days out and we will be ready.
